Pairing Reason

Finding giant betta can be difficult. Finding high quality giant betta is nearly impossible without importing them from Indonesia or Thailand. There are very few breeders of high quality betta in the US, and there are only a couple of giant betta breeders. Both Charles and Polly have good form, coloration, demeanor, and health. The fry will all be pure giant marble plakat. I will be making this pairing again in the future since the spawn was so successful.

Charles and Polly were both purchased in March of 2024 from PNW Bettas, who is a well known importer of premium bettas. They are both Giant Marble Plakat bettas. The shipment did not phase them, and I watched their behavior and health for 2 months before starting to condition them for another month.

Origin

Both Charles and Polly got fed live blackworms and high quality frozen foods for the month leading up to their introduction. Three days before putting them together, they were introduced gradually in different containers. When Charles had a healthy bubble-nest, I let Polly swim free in his tank.

Conditioning

There was very little aggression. The pair cooperated perfectly to figure out the breeding process. It took around 6 hours to complete the spawn. I removed Polly. Charles did a wonderful job as a first-time father. He was very attentive to his nest and had a good hatch rate. I kept him in the tank for an extra day as he was still tending to the nest. I took him out on day 4. Both him and Polly were given a lot of live black worms and rest to recover.
